Your family’s stories. Your privacy.
Color Your Story uses the information you share to create your characters and books, save them to your library, and handle your orders. This page explains what that involves.
Your account and Google sign-in
If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares your name, email address, profile picture and an account identifier with us. We store those details to recognize your account and give you access to your library. We also store sign-in tokens on our server, with Google access and refresh tokens encrypted.
We request only basic profile and email access. We do not request access to Gmail, Drive, contacts or your Google password. Your Google account details are used for your account, not as prompts for story or illustration generation. You can use email and a password instead; passwords are stored as hashes, not readable text.
Photos, stories and orders
We store the photos and details you submit, such as a character’s name, age range, appearance and story idea. We also keep generated artwork, book drafts, your feedback and approvals, and characters you save for another story.
For an order, we collect the contact and delivery details you provide and keep order and payment records. Card details go to Square for payment processing; our site does not store your full card number.
Your family’s photos, characters and books are not added to the public gallery. Private order links can give access to a book, so share them only with people you want to see it.
Who helps make your book
Our team reviews submitted details, artwork and drafts to prepare your book. The services involved receive the information needed for their part of the work:
- Google handles Google sign-in when you choose it.
- OpenRouter and the selected image provider, currently Google, process photos and descriptions for live character creation. OpenAI tools are used to help create custom stories and illustrations.
- Square processes payments. Lulu and delivery services receive print files and delivery details when an approved order is sent to print.
- Our hosting service stores site data and files. If you opt into available order updates, our delivery provider, Brevo, receives the contact details and message needed to send them.
These services process information under their own privacy terms. Google sign-in information is not sold, used for advertising, or shared with illustration providers as part of signing in.
Cookies and this browser
We use cookies to keep you signed in, protect sign-in requests and remember access to private orders. Browser storage remembers things such as your current character and draft choices. Our server records information such as IP addresses, browser details and request times to run and protect the site. Fonts loaded from Google also involve a connection to Google’s servers.
Signing out ends your session on that browser. On a shared device, sign out when you finish. Clearing browser data may remove access to work you have not saved to an account.
Optional journey statistics
When enabled, we collect anonymous counts of steps and actions in the book-creation journey to understand where it can be improved. Events contain only a step or action label, a temporary random identifier for this browser tab, and the time received. They do not contain your names, photos, story text, contact details or order identifiers, and are not linked to your account or sent to a third-party analytics service.
The tab identifier lasts up to 24 hours. We respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Records older than 30 days are removed during collection or maintenance.
Keeping or removing your information
Accounts, book files and saved characters remain stored so you can return to them. Signing out does not delete them. Contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information. We may need to verify that the account or book belongs to you before making changes.
Deleting book files or character references can prevent future downloads and repeat orders. Some information may need to be kept for unfinished orders, financial records, security or backups.
You can remove Color Your Story’s access in your Google Account’s connected-app settings. This stops that Google connection; it does not by itself delete your Color Your Story account or book files.
Making a book for a child
Accounts and ordering are for adults. If you are making a book for a child, use your own account and share only photos and details you have permission to use. Contact us if a child has submitted personal information that should be removed.

We will update this page when our data practices change. If a change requires new permission for Google account information, we will ask before using it in that new way.
